Last year kris and i curated the contemporary braided art rugs exhibit at sauder village rug hooking week and it was a very special time.

We enjoyed stopping by our friend kris mcdermet s class where she was teaching how to braid around hooking and make 9 loop centers. Kris mcdermet has been braiding for 40 years and fell in love with braiding on hooking during her first braiding class when her teacher isabel clough mentioned that she had seen a few hooked rugs with a row of braid on the outside creating a frame. We specialize in original primitive rug hooking patterns hand drawn on your choice of monks cloth or linen. Kris mcdermet s rugs which combine techniques of traditional hooking and rug braiding are a strong beacon indicating a mature artist s sensibility.

She began hooking and soon her rugs had rows of braid to compliment the hooking. The class was very friendly and they were clearly enjoying the class. The understory a tree is the passage between it won people s choice in the mixed media category at sauder village. Her art is unique and her technique is precise beautiful flawless.
